the perfect labor day

i have been itching for some time to get back to blogging, but unfortunately, eric and i are still without house, and thus, without internet still as well.  i won't go into details for now, but we are going to see one more house that i'm really praying will be the one.  in the meantime, how about a little therapeutic picture dump?

fall is in the air, and i couldn't be happier.  labor day was everything i was hoping it would be and more, from my crisp, chilly run in the country to start my day, to the sunset at night.  it was the first day after i completed my daniel fast, and i splurged with an amazing pumpkin spice latte on our way to visit my mother-in-law's family in goshen.



it was amazing to have a day off after all of the crazy that has been going on with our fall programming starting up at work.  and being able to wear jeans and a sweater on said day off was just icing on the cake.


in goshen, we celebrated eric's grandparents' 60th anniversary on their beautiful property.  i took the opportunity to visit with wonderful loved ones and play around with my camera, which i'm finally getting comfortable using in manual mode (it only took me a whopping eight months).





now if i could just get our desktop back so i could have access to photoshop again, i would be ecstatic.

we rounded out the day by going to look at a house that had amazing land, but the bedrooms were a little on the small side.  but seriously, check out this pond...

and it had fruit trees and woods.  do we compromise on space or don't we?  i don't know anymore.  i feel like one of those brides on "say yes to the dress" that has done way too much shopping and is beyond confused.  oy vey.

either way, it was a fun house to look at, and after we were done, we headed back to the in-laws to find this before retiring for the day:

thank you to all who are continuing to stick with me through the process of selling our house.  i know posts have been really sporadic.  i've had the best of intentions, but just haven't had the time to dedicate to blogging.  we are in the process of packing everything up right now, as we are moving all of our things to a storage unit on Saturday.  that's right...we are currently homeless.  kind of.  not really.  we would be without the generosity of my in-laws.

we currently have two houses that we're still trying to decide between agonizing over.  each is equally amazing for completely different reasons.  one has more rooms and is a bit more secluded with a natural pond on three acres, but there is no master bath.  that's really its only downfall - well, that and the fact that it's about 15 minutes from work versus 5 minutes from the other house.  the other has an amazing master suite, four wooded acres with four-wheeling tracks and a one-acre pond with a little island, but it only has two bedrooms and the neighbors don't keep up their property.  if we eventually turned the den into a third bedroom, we would only have one living area and no office/crafting space.

i guess i will have another week-and-a-half to agonize over it, as i am leaving for Young Life camp on Saturday (so pumped by the way).  please continue to show me grace for not posting.  with all of the packing and moving, leaving for a week for camp, coming back for four days and then leaving for another week for a Young Life RMR Backcountry trip, then living in a house with dial-up internet until we find a house, posts may be even more sporadic than they have been.

p.s. my husband says the small town we work in and are moving to is starting to rub off on me, as apparently i've taken on the Apostolic bun.  my thoughts on this: apparently they've had the right idea all along - it's quick, easy, looks cute and is awesome for second-day hair. i will continue to rock this bun every day every other day of the week.
p.p.s. i'm going to miss this little house of ours.

snow day, projects and 50

that's right, snow day.  in fact, this is a momentous occasion that deserves capital letters *gasp* and an exclamation point.

SNOW DAY!


this morning, Eric's alarm clock woke us up with the most beautiful words i could have expected to hear:  level one snow emergency.  a text from my boss confirmed that the day was mine.  naturally, my heart was happy enough to fall back into a coma for another two hours before waking up to the best kind of breakfast there is:  a husband-made one.  i love that man.

now, because we couldn't go anywhere for the day, there will be no 30 for 30 post.  instead, let me introduce you to a little project that i've been working on.  it was so wonderful to have the day to finally complete it.

remember my post about the silhouettes i made of our two puppies?  if not, it's okay.  i realize this little blog has seen quite a few new followers since then...which, by the way, is awesome.  just click on that link right back there and you can catch up.  in it, i talked about plans that i had for the project as a whole.  since then (really just today), that plan has evolved into something so much better than i had hoped for.  check it out:

boy, it sure would be nice if i had some before pictures to reference.  i took some, but it was only after i had taken down the existing decor and started switching frames around that i realized the SD card that was in my camera at the time wasn't saving the photos i had been taking all day (so much for my cute picture of lily snoozing with crimpy hair from her bath today).  i'll just explain.  the three leaf pictures were in the bronze frames, which were spaced evenly along the length of our couch.  it looked okay, but i've been wanting to liven and lighten things up.  so in with the white frames & shelf (spray painted) and the silhouettes.  i wanted the silhouettes to be the focus, so i switched out the frames.  we also decided to put them in the middle of the wall, rather than over the couch, to spread things out a bit.

i'm hoping to add to this wall, which is another reason we centered everything with the wall, not the couch. i also want to do a new centerpiece for the coffee table, make a couple more pillows for the couch, get lighter curtains, and possibly paint that clock white, now that i'm seeing it in this picture (what do we think?)

in other news, i now have fifty followers!  i promise to get back to what most of you came for (clothes...and my beautiful face?) tomorrow.  in the meantime, wish me luck tomorrow as i attempt to trek through this:

so here's what i've decided:  rather than list all of the individual items of each outfit every day, i've assigned a number to each one.  if you'd like to know more deets about each one, check out my 30 for 30 tab.

i wanted to be a little more creative to kick this thing off right.  mother nature had a different plan.  boots were a must to allow for the snow that accumulated last night, and layers were necessary to protect myself from the freezing rain projected for today.  it's days like this that i pray for May to come quickly.  seriously guys, it's Defcon-5 out there.  don't believe me?  see for yourself:


just so we're clear, colors are bad.  this map making me hungry for cotton candy?  bad sign.  if we were in the Carolinas right now in these conditions, it would have been announced that death is upon us, and that we may as well curl up in the fetal position and prepare for the end.  but seeing that we're in Indiana, there's still a possibility that i may have to work tomorrow.  in order for my office to close, the city of Fort Wayne has to declare that it is illegal for anyone to drive on the roads, except in emergency situations.  who wants to join me with a shovel to start filling in all of the tracks the plows have left?  

...seriously, you guys are the best.
