11/30: valentine's mush

sweater: Banana Republic; skirt: thrifted; shoes: Bandolino; coat: Guess; scarf: Target; belt: Forever21; tights: ?
last night, the hubs and i had a wonderful dinner on the town to celebrate this day of love since we have Young Life on the actual vday.  my dinner couldn't have represented the good old US of A any better, as it consisted of salmon (innocent enough)...wrapped in bacon (uh oh)...smothered in hollandaise sauce (oy vey).  add on to that a salad, veggies, dirty rice, half of a dessert and an espresso martini, and i rolled out of the joint feeling about as round as Cupid himself.

i have to say, i'm not afraid to get mushy on my blog.  while i do enjoy this whole 30 for 30 bit, what i love most about blogging is the idea that my thoughts and feelings in this moment will be preserved for me to reflect on down the line.  that being said, my husband is an excellent date.  i had so much fun with him last night, from being cutesy and romantic to laughing to the point of tears.  it's dates like last night's that solidify our wonderful friendship.

did i mention that he asked me to stuff the bread in my purse?  and while i know they would have been happy to give us a bag to take it home, i obliged.  this would be the laughing-to-the-point-of-tears part of the evening, as the two tables closest to us were only about two feet away, and because, hi, who does this?  it made a nice little edition to hub's breakfast this morning, and i was totally the hero.

happy valentine's day to my husband, best friend and partner in crime.  i couldn't possibly be more in love with you.

mental health vs. smaller waist

anyone that reads my blog may have noticed i've been somewhat absent this week.  i have been a tired mrs. crankypants and have had zero motivation to contribute to this little blog-o-mine.

i've also had zero motivation to cook, clean or P90X.

last night i went to bed at 9:30.

do you think it's a coincidence that all of this is taking place at the same time that i decided to cut all sweets from my diet for a week?

i think not.  someone get me some chocolate before i, a) hurt someone, b) lapse into a deep depression or c) eat everything in sight in an attempt to forget about the fact that i can't have sugar.

really, is having a smaller waist worth risking my mental health?  please, somebody help me justify giving up on this week-long battle.  if you do, i'll share my chocolate with you.

but not too much.

how grown women get down

you better believe it's bachelor time.  as you may recall all the way back from, well, yesterday's post, this show is absolutely a guilty pleasure of mine.  i started watching it with my mom back in the first season, when the guy wasn't ripped or good-looking in any way.  in fact, alex was kind of an all-around tool, which means, at the heart of it, this show hasn't really changed at all.

in high school, all of my girlfriends used to speed to my house from youth group to gather 'round, watch and discuss.  and on finale night, you better believe we used to have a sleepover...on school nights.  watch out, folks, we're getting dangerous here.

same story in college.  my roommates and i would all pour a glass of wine and meet up in the living room for some quality bonding time.  fast-forward another three years to tonight's finale and you'll find that nothing has changed.  at the last minute today, i texted some girlfriends of mine to see if they would be up for watching together.  i figured it would be a long shot, as the rest of the girls have children, but the bachelor is serious business, so they found a way to work it out.

as cheesy as it sounds, and as much as boys would roll their eyes over this, some of my favorite memories with my friends over the years have come from watching this show together.  on a special, last year, about the show's history and popularity, one group of women explained that this show is like the super bowl for chicks.

they were absolutely right.  we talk about and relate to each other over this show like men talk about and relate over sports.  just like each player has their stats, each female contestant has a list of pros and cons, and sometimes just plain crazies.

and that's why i've decided to make this season a bit of a competition among friends to thicken the plot.  i found cheat sheets with all of the women's names and pictures on ABC's website and printed them off for each of my friends.  we made notes as we developed first impressions, discussed, and before elimination, we voted on which girls would go.  only one of us even got half of them right.  seriously, brad, what were you thinking?  we even rewound the preview at the end to try to analyze which girls look like they'll be around for a while.  we'll continue to vote each week, only being able to select from the pool of girls we originally thought would go on.  it's like our own bachelor march madness.

based on first impressions, i think brad should stick with these three:

marissa, the sports analyst.  beautiful, down-to-earth, and seriously?  any girl that likes sports is more than welcome to take up residence as my friend.
emily aka holly madison (the resemblance is uncanny).  i love how the previews make it look like she is going to challenge him in a real way and actually question this experience and the relationship.

shawntel, the funeral director.  she was by far my best first impression and just seems so natural.  plus, hello, she's a funeral director.  awesome.  she wasn't featured much, so i'm excited to see more.

and now for the ladies i'm a bit more skeptical of:

ashley.  okay, yes, she's a cute nanny with a sob story, and she got the first impression rose.  but really, she grabbed his butt within 15 seconds of meeting him.  i also feel like she's trying to be tenley.  quality?  meh.

meghan, fashion marketer - did you see her huge pink shoes?  woof.

and for painfully obvious reasons, model madison.  fangs?  really?
who's on the top and bottom of your list?  i'd love to hear!  seriously, gossip away.

steppin' out sunday {trashy tv edition}

sweater dress:  forever21
jeans:  LOFT
boots:  st. john's bay for jc penney
scarf:  knit by me
necklace:  forever21

so first off, yes, i cheated.  i realize this is supposed to be steppin' out saturday, but there was no steppin' out yesterday.  yesterday consisted of lounging in sweats without makeup, stuffing my face at my in-laws house, watching football and napping.  can we all give a big woot for holidays?

as far as new year's resolutions go, i'm not such a big fan.  i hate the idea of only setting big goals for yourself at the beginning of each year.  i feel like this design ultimately sets people up for failure.  i've got some big goals in the works right now that i'll share on another day so they will actually be taken seriously.  in the meantime, today i resolve to continue to watch the following trashy tv shows as long as they remain on air:

the bachelor:  i have had a mental countdown going for this one, folks.  now it's down to one day, and inside, i'm doing cartwheels.  i'll save the real cartwheels for tomorrow.
16 and pregnant:  the ultimate guilty pleasure.  i have no shame in admitting that i found one of the girls' blogs and am now following.
teen mom:  hubs thinks this is the same as 16 and pregnant.  ha!  shows how little he knows.  i can't wait to watch the new set of moms, although i'm not really convinced it can be a show without gary and amber.
real world & the challenge:  i try to stay away, i really do.  but it's like a train wreck, and i'm a rubber-necker.

what shows are you slightly embarrassed to say you watch?  come on, now, you can share.  this is a safe place.
